How to choose a projector for Church?

A projector is a great addition to any church. Not only can they be used for worship, but they can also be used for education and training. However, choosing the right projector for Church is tricky as it involves a lot of considerations. The number of people attending the Church congregation is very high, and thus only capable projectors can do the required task.

While there are many projectors available in the market, it is difficult to find the one that is suitable for different church scenarios. Also, the lighting environment in the churches cannot be controlled. Thus it is more challenging for any projector to project a clear and suitable image readable for people coming to Church.

So, how do you choose the right projector for your Church?

Well! There are a few things to consider when making your decision.

Fixed or Portable

As churches often organize several meetings and services, projector transportation is mandatory. Portable projectors are lightweight, while fixed projectors are bulky and cannot be transported. It would help if you mounted them at a fixed position.

If the churches need to move their projector from one place to another periodically, fixed projectors will not work.

Hence, the churches consider portable projectors if the projector needs to be moved from one place to another. If no such movement is required, they can consider fixed projectors.

Resolution

For a detailed image projection, the resolution of a projector plays a crucial role. The images will be blurry and unclear for the projectors with lower resolution. Especially for Churches, the projector resolution matters as most images are text and thus need to be precise and clear. The minimum recommendation for a church projector showing texts is 1024X768 (XGA) pixels. There are many XGA resolution projectors under $500 available in the market. If you need an affordable projector that can successfully display large texts, XGA projectors are best to consider.

Churches that primarily deal with videos and movies should consider HD (1920×1080 pixels). However, these projectors are costlier than XGA projectors but capable of producing high-quality video and movie presentations.

Brightness

It is one of the primary considerations for any Church projector. While different brightness ratings are available for different projectors, the most efficient comes with high lumen ratings. This brightness rating determines the projected image brightness.

High brightness projector helps in projecting crisp and more readable images as we know that most churches come with medium to ambient light conditions the image projection capabilities. Especially the people sitting at the back will not be able to see properly if the projector is not bright. Hence high brightness rating is important for the visible text displays in Churches.

According to projectorpick.com, The recommended brightness rating for a church projector stands a minimum at 4000 ANSI lumens. While the large Churches with a seating higher capacity may require the projectors with a minimum of 6000 ANSI lumens.

If the ambient light conditions are controllable in the churches with the help of their window blinds, a low brightness projector up to 3000 lumens can work for them.

Throw Ratio

The distance between the projector and the screen is the throw ratio. It determines the image size any projector can reflect when positioned at a specific place. Ultra-short-throw projectors are meant to be placed very close, just a few inches away from the projector screen. They can project 100″ image from a short distance of 6 inches. However, a standard throw projector can display from a distance of few feet from the screen. If placed as near to screen at a distance of 6″, it will be able to project an image up to 12″ only.

Hence, it is important to consider the distance between the projector installation spot and projection screen to understand what type of projector is required. Only the small premises with limited spaces need an ultra-short-throw projector. Large churches opt for a standard or long-throw projectors.

Is the projector screen important?

Church Projectors & Screens are closely related to each other. It is obvious to expect high-quality pictures from an expensive projector. However, the quality of image projection depends on the projector and the type of projection screen you choose. While the internet is full of DIY projection screen tutorials, it is judicious to invest in a quality projector screen to get the worth of your investment on any quality projector.

Especially the large churches should go for the projector screen with wide viewing angles. Else, the images and text will go blurry towards its edges. Most of the churches consider the projector screen according to their seating arrangements.

Conclusion

Buying a perfect projector for your Church is easy when you know exactly the requirements. Considerations such as brightness, throw ratio, resolution, and portability play an important role in determining if the projector is best suitable for your Church setup or not.
